Ride to Pool Cancelled!

The RIDE TO POOL event planned for 16th of March 2014 at the Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool has been CANCELLED due to the cold weather forecast. As the season ends soon, Ride to Pool won't be happening this summer. Hopefully we will have better luck next season!

Thanks to Active Moreland, Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool and Moreland City Council's Sustainable Transport officer for working with us on the planning.

Thanks to the all important performers who would have been, if it weren't for the weather: Short Order Schefs, The Shambelles , DJ Eddy and The Obvious Creatures.

Thanks to The Spokesman on Gilbert who had been willing to do free bike repair on the day.

Thanks also to Treadlie, ByK Kids Bikes, Rays Bicycle Centre Brunswick and The Squeaky Wheel for support and promotion.

Ride to Pool 2011

Ride to Pool day turned out to be a beautiful summer day. Perfect for hanging out by our pool and under the big trees. Nearly 1000 people attended and there were many, many bikes parked out the front and inside. The pool was busy (but not packed), the vibe was electric and people from all over Coburg enjoyed the music, pool inflatable and jumping castle.

Ride to Pool Day 2010

This year's ride to pool day was another fun event! I'm so pleased that the weather held and the forecast showers didn't eventuate, especially since bad weather put a stop to the first planned Ride to Pool Day.

Ride to Pool day 2010

Isn't it great that we've had our pool back for two season's? It certainly hasn't been quite as hot this year, but the Coburg Olympic Pool has still been great fun and is a fantastic place to meet and relax with friends. Last Sunday the learn to swim pool was action packed and there were kids queuing to have a go on the jumping castle. There was music and dancing, water and sunshine, lots of relaxing under the big shady trees and an all round good vibe. I just love our pool. It's so, so good to have it back.

Ride to Pool day, take two!

Hopefully the weather this Sunday will be fine. Ride to Pool day at the Coburg Olympic Pool has been rescheduled for 21/02/2010. This was a spectacular day last year and promises to be again, with music and dancing, swimming fun on the pool inflatable and in the jumping castle. Friends of the Coburg Olympic Pool will be selling some t-shirts and there will be a sausage sizzle from the High School for Coburg Group.

The music line up is:

2.00 - 2.30pm Que Paso (bluegrass band)
2.45 - 3.15pm Nicola Lester.
3.30 - 4.00pm Nick Murphy
4.15 - 4.45pm Ross McLennan

5.00 - 5.40pm Short Order Chefs

Entry is free as Christine Campbell, the member for Pascoe Vale, is
sponsoring the event. The pool will be open usual weekend hours from 11-6. Pass it on and see you there!

Ride to pool party cancelled

This years planned Ride to Pool day at the Coburg Olympic Pool has been more or less cancelled due to forecast rainy and windy weather on Sunday 17th of January 2010. The bands will not be playing and there will be no inflatables as rain makes operating the electrical equipment and inflatable pool equipment dangerous. The sausage sizzle has also been cancelled.
Hopefully, it's just a postponement though - there is talk of rescheduling festivities for the end of the summer season.

Ride to pool day this Sunday!

End of season pool party

On Sunday the 15th of March Belgravia Leisure is hosting an end of season pool party at the Coburg Olympic Pool from 11.00 am til 6.00pm. There will be free entry, inflatable pool toys and a sausage sizzle.

Even if it ends up being too cold for a proper swim, it would be nice to hang out on the grass and enjoy our pool one last time before it closes at the end of March until December.

We've also started a Facebook page which you can find here.

ride to pool

What a gorgeous day at the pool! The weather couldn't have been better and about 600 people turned up. There was music and dancing, fun on the inflatable pool thingy, bouncing in the bouncing castle and sausages a sizzling. Not to mention our beautiful pool and the grass and shady trees that surround it. It's impossible for photos to capture just how awesome this day was but you get the idea! If anyone else has any photos they'd like to share, we now have a fledgling flickr group or you can email them to me at janetmgrigg@gmail.com.

Perhaps the words someone handed to me at the end of the day tell the story the best;
"18th Jan 2008, band a playin', bikes in the distance. The surrounding green like nowhere else I know in this town. Kids breakdancing to the band that's by no means hip hop. But it's community, it's diversity, it's adding to the colour of our moods. On this sunday, on this sunday."

Down at the Pool

If you came to Pool Together, chances are you heard the amazing Bruce Watson sing Down at the Pool written in honour of the occasion with some very enthusiastic back up from some Friends of the Coburg Olympic Pool. Bruce is going to be performing again on Sunday the 14th at the pool re-opening celebration and I'd say there's a fair chance he'll be performing Down at the Pool again. We can all sing along. So sit back and remember how it goes....

Down at the Pool footage used with the kind permission of Bruce Watson. Visit Bruce's general site here and his myspace with recent information and lots of music here.

Hope to see you all there. We have a lot to celebrate!

Pool Together - wasn't it fantastic!

Last Sunday about 520 locals turned up on a frosty afternoon to pool together and celebrate that funds have been included the Moreland council's draft budget to re-open our favourite outdoor pool in Coburg for the next swimming season. The Newlands Neighbourhood House was packed to the rafters with good humoured, happy people. Kids roamed between the sandpit, inside where the music was and outside watching Sammy Star.

The speeches were good too - in particular it was really interesting hearing Frank Cox's view of life in the Newlands area. The music rocked, the sausages sizzled and the cake stall was eaten bare. In the end, we raised over $1300!! This money has been banked and will be used to fund community events at the pool or go towards the purchase of something that the pool can use.

A big thank-you goes out to everyone that helped out with the day and made it the enormous success that it was.

More photos here. See you all at the pool!
